CREAM: More than 100 suppliers in the Midwest region generate the cream used in Grassland butter. The cream is pumped from modern stainless steel tankers and each are washed inside and out before going back on the road. Friendly and knowledgeable drivers transport cream and butter products in one of Grassland's fleet of 25+ trucks.
EVAPORATOR: A by-product of butter, buttermilk, is sent to our stork evaporator where it is condensed into customer-specific blends.
THREE CONTINUOUS CHURNS: These churns, the largest of their kind in the world. operate side by side in our modern, state-of-the-art building. With the exception of clean-up time, these churns produce butter around the clock. These churns have the combined capacity to churn a phenomenal 42,000 pounds of butter per hour. Grassland is proud that all its certified buttermakers are yearly recipients for awards of excellence at the Wisconsin State Fair.
PROCESSING: In this stage, fresh cream is pasteurized and then separated to the exact consistency needed for the buttermaking process. On completion, it moves on to the next step where it is quickly cooled and ready for churning. One of the largest in the industry, Grassland Dairy has the capability of handling more than 1 million pounds of cream daily.
ANHYDROUS MILKFAT SYSTEM: The newest additions to our line are anhydrous milkfat and butteroil. Anhydrous milkfat is manufactured from pasteurized cream and butteroil from butter. Depending on product and customer specification, the end product results in 99.5-99.8% milkfat. These additions to our line open the door to international markets, as well as serving U.S. industrial customers.
BUTTER PRINTING: High-speed machines take butter directly from churns and package it into such items as one pound solids, elgin quarters, continentals, redi-pats, patties, sealed cups, bulk, and whipped butter, including cups. Our company supplies every kind of packaged butter salted and unsalted, in our label and 80 others. Finished products are stored in the refrigerated and freezer warehouses capable of storing 75 semi loads of butter at any given time. Product is loaded into refrigerated trucks for delivery nationwide.
